Multiple Intelligences

In order to develop the multiple intelligences in young learners when we tell a story we must perform different activities to promote them.

To develop the multiple intelligences, which are: linguistic, logical-mathematical, bodily/kinesthetic, visual, musical, interpersonal, interpersonal and naturalistic, I will choose the story of the Three Little Pigs.

First, to work the linguistic and visual intelligence, after reading the story I would divide the class into groups of four children. Each group would do a poster or a mural about the story through drawing themselves accompanied by short texts or key words. After making the murals each group would expose their work to the others orally. In the exposition all the members of the group would participate.

Second, to work the logical-mathematical intelligence I would do an activity that consists in handing over to each child in each group some photos about the scenes of the story. They should order them creating a timeline of the events.

Third, to work the bodily/kinesthetic intelligence I would perform an activity that consists in dividing the class into groups of four students. Then, the teacher would give each group a puzzle of some scenes of the story and then the groups should fit them together.

Fourth, to work the musical intelligence I would choose an activity in which the teacher would tell the story with songs. In this activity we would divide the class into three groups. One group would be the pig’s house of straw, other the pig’s house of wood and finally the pig’s house of brick. Each group would sing their part separately and the chorus together.

Fifth, to work the interpersonal intelligence I would do a drama activity, because this way the students would assume a role, as well, and all the children would be responsible for the result.

Sixth, to work the interpersonal intelligence I would do an activity in which the teacher divides the class into groups of four students. Then, the teacher would designate each student a role: the pig in the straw house, the house of wood or brick house and the wolf. Everyone should write their lines on a piece of paper it would feel like being that character.

Finally, to work the naturalistic intelligence I would perform an activity, in which we would read the story until the three little pigs built their houses and then ask them what might happen to each of the pigs when the wolf appeared. This permits the students to raise hypothesis of what might happen to them.
